Fashion and clothing trends that will be popular next year
- I have worked as a celebrity stylist for over 10 years so I have seen a lot of trends come and go.
- In 2022, you should be looking for lots of textures, including quilted, fluffy, and sequined clothing.
- We are seeing a big comeback in Y2K fashion, and square toe shoes will be comfortable and chic.
It’s the end of the year, which means it’s time to embrace new trends and learn how to fit the next “it” items into your wardrobe.
As a stylist who has spent over a decade dressing people for TV, red carpets, and everyday life, here are some trends I love for 2022:
Oversized quilted diapers get hot
When you think of quilted wardrobe pieces, you can pair them with hunting essentials. But quilted jackets can give you an oversized look while adding a touch to your style.
Additionally, there are a number of ways you can style the look.
On a date I would add a pair of jeans, over the knee boots and a fun top. For accessories, I would suggest fun earrings and cute rings.
Fuzzy accessories have a moment
I know the influx of plush can be overwhelming, and it can be difficult to determine which piece to add to your wardrobe. But something like a plush or fleece hat or purse can work for several seasons.
Many designers have jumped on the trend and created bags with the right amount of texture. This leaves you the option to wear it in winter with your favorite coat and boots. Or you can go for a denim look in the warmer seasons and let your fluffy handbag do the talking.
You’ll want to play with lots of colorful resin rings
Gone are the days when gold, silver and pearls were essential accessories. A colorful resin ring will give your fingers the sparkle you are looking for.
Wearing rings in winter can seem like a lot of work when you have to put on gloves and mittens. But you can try to accessorize gloves with one or two rings to spice up your hands.
Glitter will shine in summer
Usually, the new year passes, and suddenly we are fed up with the glitter and the sparkle. But you might want to think twice before you put everything away.
You can bring the glittery look to the summer months by dressing it up with cropped white pants. Or you can even pair a sequined tee with a pair of sweatshirts for a super casual ensemble.
Mini skirts are sure to be the preferred length next year.
We all loved mini skirts in the ’90s. And if you’ve missed the trend, now’s a great time to come back and show off your legs.
Pair the shirt with your choice of bottom color on colder days, or let it shine on its own when we start ditching heavier clothes in 2022.
Acquired puffers are a timeless investment
Whether you find them old-fashioned or unflattering, you might want to rethink your stance on vests – this gem is going to change your fashion life and take you far next season.
When it’s cold outside but you don’t want to completely overload your outfit with a coat, you can get away with just wearing a denim or leather jacket if you add a vest as an extra layer of protection.
I like to wear my jacket with heels or brighten it up with a funky brimmed hat and chunky turtleneck.
Y2K denim on denim makes a comeback
We all remember when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake immortalized the denim-on-denim trend on the red carpet, and I’m here to tell you it’s back.
It is convenient to dress more easily without worrying about what to pair. Instead, your only worry is to match the shoes to the occasion.
Square toe shoes are the new wave of comfort
You can say goodbye to pointy toes and fix your gaze on a new wave of comfort: block heels.
There are an assortment of styles you’ll want to add to your shoe closet, including some trendy bold prints.
There are also some amazing ways to wear them. I like to wear mine casually with jeans, a mini skirt or shorts.
A corset is guaranteed to grab your attention in the New Year
Corsets used to be underwear, but the silhouette top is the best buy for next season.
A corset offers an incredible empowering structure, and some designers incorporate them into their pieces.
It’s versatile and it’s a great way to brighten up your wardrobe.
Yellow can brighten up your winter wardrobe
Yellow will brighten up the cold and dark months.
I would start by investing in a blouse that you can wear to brunch or a date.
It should pair well with existing knits in your wardrobe – a cardigan, a leather jacket, a pair of fun print pants – but it always adds a little extra cheer.
